Background of the Study

Continuous professional development is essential for healthcare professionals to stay updated with advancements in medical science and best practices. Traditional in-person training methods have limitations, such as geographical barriers, high costs, and time constraints. The rise of digital learning platforms has revolutionized professional health education by offering flexible, accessible, and cost-effective learning opportunities (Adepoju & Salami, 2024).

E-learning platforms provide healthcare workers with online courses, virtual simulations, and interactive modules, enhancing knowledge acquisition and skill development. In Sokoto State, where healthcare infrastructure is developing, e-learning has the potential to bridge knowledge gaps and improve service delivery. However, challenges such as digital literacy, internet accessibility, and engagement levels remain concerns. This study evaluates the effectiveness of e-learning platforms in professional health education in Sokoto State.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the growing adoption of e-learning in medical education, there is limited research on its effectiveness in improving healthcare professionals’ knowledge and skills in Sokoto State. Some concerns include low participation rates, technological barriers, and the quality of online content (Abubakar & Hassan, 2024).

This study investigates the impact of e-learning platforms on professional health education, assessing their effectiveness, adoption rates, and potential limitations in Sokoto State.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the adoption and usage of e-learning platforms among healthcare professionals in Sokoto State.
  2. To evaluate the effectiveness of e-learning platforms in enhancing professional health education.
  3. To identify barriers affecting the successful implementation of e-learning for healthcare workers.

Research Questions

  1. How widely are e-learning platforms used among healthcare professionals in Sokoto State?
  2. How effective are e-learning platforms in improving professional knowledge and skills?
  3. What challenges hinder the adoption of e-learning for health education?

Research Hypotheses

  1. E-learning platforms have no significant impact on professional health education.
  2. There is no significant relationship between e-learning adoption and knowledge improvement.
  3. Barriers to e-learning do not significantly affect its effectiveness in professional health education.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focuses on healthcare professionals using e-learning platforms in Sokoto State. Limitations include differences in digital access, internet connectivity issues, and participant engagement levels.
